2016 SS facelift was revealed apparently. Me like.

Kinja'd!!!

Those wheels look so much better than the current ones. Blue’s pretty too.

The Buick vents on the hood should really improve the performance.

I imagine they’re actually functional heat extractors like the ‘Vette and Camaro have.

It was advertised in a Holden ad for fucks sake!

I'd love a manual SS! Unfortunately they're holding value very well.

I mean I like it, but just so generic.

I mean it’s alright. I still love this car. Wish they’d throw on an SS logo instead of the bowtie.

My guess is they’ll pull a G8 GXP and keep their prices way up, sadly.

One person’s generic is another’s understated, especially when there’s stuff like the new Maxima on the road.

I don’t think the last model year, Commodore, VXR8, or G8s had those extractors though. Plus I’ve never seen a GM V8 with extractors that far back and to the sides. I think they may be “functional” as in there is a hole through the hood, but I can’t imagine they are essential. I’m not a GM guy or engineer though, so I don’t know. I like the SS though.

Pfft. $45k for a Chevy? You’re not serious right? I’ll just get the charger for far less than- Oh wait, the R/T is slower, doesn’t offer a manual, and will cost exactly as much when optioned out like the SS is. The SRT is faster but also costs more and you still don’t get a manual.

Well...fine, I’ll just take my money to Germany and - oh wait, $45k is base model money in that segment. Need to bring another $40k or so if you want V8 power. You also can’t get a manual here anymore unless you’re willing to settle for 6 cylinders or buy an R8 (bring another $100k with you for that last one)

Well...Japan? Honda doesn’t make V8s for public consumption. The LS is more 7-series than 5-series. The GS four-door doesn’t come with a V8 anymore for now. The M-nee-Q70 looks promising but 1) no manual 2) Lux badged, so we face the ‘bring another $40k with you’ problem again.

...Ford? They don’t make this sort of car anymore.

Well...fine. * begrudgingly buys a manual SS, but won’t stop complaining about it on the internet*

My biggest beef with this thing is the fact that SS is a trim level, not a car. Call the current Impala the Caprice and call the SS the Impala SS, we'll call it good. The rest of the package... gib

Pretty much spot on.

The only thing I can see it compared to is a used 550i with a stick. But then again, the F10 has been categorised by being dull to drive.

I just have no idea what Chevy design is. I see no direction. I see cars with fleet vehicle designed all over them like mustard on a hot dog. I can’t get into whatever they’re trying to do. The front of the SS could easily be the new front of the Malibu or Cruze and look in place. I don’t think chevy knows what to do here. It’s a sedan with 4-doors and an SS put on it. Just my words.

Does it really need to be anything more than a sedan with 4 doors and an SS badge on it? It’s a good looking car, most of the cars they make are IMO. I don’t see why the need a direction to take all their cars, why not just design good looking cars?

*cough* I have a sore throat from all the coughing *cough*

seriously though, I’d rather buy a scat pack. not saying this isn't cool, but I will say that you should admit that the scat pack is a cheaper, more powerful, if worse equipped and less manual alternative

Kinja'd!!! Grindintosecond > Logansteno: Bought a VW?

I understand that. The SS tho, is something Chevy has that’s not an upmarket version of anything they have alrready, like an SRT 8 Charger or whatever. It’s just the SS. So, I would assume they can make it look not like a Malibu or sedan economy car. But maybe that’s what they want.

I don’t know. I just can’t get into it since it doesnt speak to me like its a special something that it really is.

Facelift = shiny bits bracketing the lower center intake instead of a band of chrome, hood vents (that are probably as functional as they are on buicks), repositioned LEDs, and a badge sticker on the exposed bumper?

Kinja'd!!!

Now that the Malibu’s been redesigned it will be less confusing determining which is which, but both are still very bland.

option for option? cool. i’ll take my 8-speed auto 6.4 HEMI SS now ;)

I see you’ve checked the driver tech group BTW, that’s not necessary. also, upgraded audio is an option for both, so take that off.

The leather? don’t need it, so it goes, and the driver confidence group? already got confidence ;)

my total is $39,995, a solid $5k less. so yeah, it’s a cheaper, more powerful alternative that I’d rather have

Is it different enough to be noticeable? Yes? It’s a facelift. The entire front fascia has been altered ever so slightly. If you can’t tell you need a higher definition monitor or your eyes checked. The hood vents are fully functional as heat extractors as well.

I don't understand there marketing approach with this car. Ahh errr I mean the lack of it at all. WTF everyone knows about the Charger facelift. FCA has done an amazing job marketing there cars. Even if your not a V8 guy they're commercials might make you one. Mean while GM takes the, "If you make it they will buy it", approach. I can't figure out if it's arrogance or they just want it to fail. Please GM guys explain this to me.

option for option? cool. i’ll take my 8-speed auto 6.4 HEMI SS now ;)

This is dumb. You know good and bloody well what is meant by ‘option-for-option’. Conflating the understanding is not funny or cute.

I see you’ve checked the driver tech group BTW, that’s not necessary.

It is for an apples-to-apples comparison on price. You can’t make the claim that the Charger is really cheaper if that’s only because you have to strip features out of it that come standard with the SS. “But I don’t care about those features” is nice for you, but meaningless to an actual buyer that does care, and will pay the (exorbitant, lets be honest here) price to get those features.

also, upgraded audio is an option for both, so take that off.

Kinja'd!!!

No, it is not. Premium audio comes standard on the SS. There are no other interior option packages at all. The only interior options are for floor mats. Everything else is standard.

and the driver confidence group? already got confidence ;)

...you do understand that the ‘Driver confidence group’ isn’t just like a group of words, right? Like...they don’t hand you a special card that says ‘confident driver’ after you fork over your $600.

Kinja'd!!!

This is what’s included in the driver confidence group, and if you look through the list of things included on the SS, all of this stuff is on there. “Hey, I don’t need any of that stuff!” That’s great, but HEY, Real buyers who want something comparable to the SS from Dodge are going to want that stuff to be there, and a car from Dodge that has that stuff on it will cost as much as the SS. That’s the point.

I’m using a Dell 4K color-calibrated professional-class monitor. Maybe you need your eyes checked?

It’s the equivalent of changing lipstick, not really a whole facelift (like the Malibu had a couple years ago, when they changed the headlights, grille, tail lamps, and interior, but the overall car stayed largely the same). It's still bland. You are correct on the functional vents though .

Who knows how long it will be made, though, so the scarcely-noticeable update might be a last-ditch effort to move inventory.

Just got mine checked, 15/20 with glasses on.

I call any really noticeable change a facelift just because that’s what the industry calls it. As for it being bland, to each their own. Sticks out as understated in a world where things like the Maxima and modern Mercs are running around.

You know what's quite sad? I saw an SS on the road the other day, first I've ever seen. And the only reason I even noticed it was because the owner put an LS3 badge on the rear decklid. The car really is about as non-descript as it gets. I honestly can't tell you the difference between a Malibu, Impala, and SS without looking at the emblem.
